FE & ENGINEER INTERNS

FE Exam Approval
If you hold an ABET-accredited engineering degree or are a senior in an ABET-accredited program, register for the FE exam at NCEES. The exam fee will be paid directly to NCEES after they verify your education credentials. Once the registration process is complete, you will be able to schedule your exam at a Pearson VUE testing center. Upon passing the FE exam with your qualifying degree or 15 years of approved engineering experience, you can return here to apply for the Engineer Intern Certification.
If you hold a non-ABET-accredited engineering, engineering technology, or science-related to an engineering degree, complete the application using the link below to receive approval to take the FE exam. Official transcripts should be sent from the University directly to DAPE via email or mail. We do not accept transcripts directly from applicants. We do accept verified transcripts connected to your NCEES account.
- If your degree is in a science-related to engineering, your transcripts will be reviewed for approval by our next Examining Committee, meeting on the last Wednesday of each month.
- If your degree is from a foreign institution, we require an NCEES credentials evaluation. Once received, your credentials evaluation and transcripts will be reviewed for approval at our next Examining Committee meeting (on the last Wednesday of each month).
Upon passing the FE exam, contact us to complete the Engineer Intern Certification process (you will not have to pay additional fees or submit a new application).
Engineer Intern Certification
If you have successfully passed the FE exam and would like to apply for certification as an Engineer Intern, please complete the application below.
*Note: While DAPE does not require Engineer Intern Certification to be licensed as a P.E., some jurisdictions do have this requirement. Laws and requirements vary from State-to-State, and you are responsible for researching requirements if your intention is to get licensed elsewhere. Even if you have passed the FE exam, or have been certified as an Engineer Intern in another jurisdiction, the following conditions will apply for Engineer Intern Certification in Delaware:
- If your degree is in a science-related to engineering, your transcripts will be reviewed for approval by our next Examining Committee, meeting on the last Wednesday of each month.
- If your degree is from a foreign institution, we require an NCEES credentials evaluation. Once received, your credentials evaluation will be reviewed for approval by our next Examining Committee, meeting on the last Wednesday of each month.
While graduate degrees may reduce your experience requirements when applying for PE licensure, we still require verification of your undergraduate degree.
Decoupling
DAPE allows candidates to separate the timing of experience and examinations (commonly referred to as “decoupling”). If you wish to take the PE exam prior to obtaining your engineering experience requirement, please apply for the Engineer Intern Certificate below. Decoupling candidates apply for an initial PE license after passing required exams. All Engineer Intern Certificate requirements above apply and we will use your application to verify your education so this must be complete even if you are certified in another state.
